spidey and me

the NY times reported today that work on the upcoming spiderman musical has been suspended due to "unexpected cash flow problems."

bummer.

rumors i heard around the office were that stagehands hadn't received pay in several weeks!  with U2's bono as one of the creative forces behind the show, can't he just sign some checks?

anyway, maybe in this time off they re-cast the roll of MJ... i just can't see evan rachel wood kissing my man, peter parker.  that bitch.

the musical is still set to begin previews on february 25th at the hilton theater.

madrid and me

i'm leaving for madrid in two weeks!

my boyfriend's co-worker is getting married there and so we are making a mini-vacation of it!  can't wait!

so the only "must" i've been told is the prado, where we will see masterpieces by el greco, velazquez, raphael, goya, rembrandt and more...

i'm been doing my reading and research, and i'm really looking forward to all the tapas, paella, and vino.  i'm kind of a "foodie" in that i like to eat... not that i know what i'm eating.

has anyone been?  can you suggest your favorite places?

h-o-r-s-... and me!

wait... SHAQ is joining LEBRON JAMES in cleveland next season?

good luck everyone else in the NBA.

good luck.

michael jackson stands alone.

yesterday we lost a great talent.  RIP MJ.

michael jackson stands alone as the king of pop.  not only has he been a huge influence on the music world, with such hit albums as "off the wall" and "thriller" but he was also an ICON of dance and fashion.  come on, i remember doing the zombie "thriller dance" in my friend's basement in first grade!

and in fact, i think someone recently once bet me $1.00 that i wouldn't moonwalk to the bathroom at beauty bar, and... thanks for the beer money marisa.

here are my personal top five favorite michael jackson songs (in no particular order):
1)  P.Y.T.
2)  scream (and it's $7 million music video)
3)  rock with you
4)  the way you make me feel
5)  billie jean

with a special nod to "will you be there" from the "free willy soundtrack."

thanks for everything michael.  you will be missed.

broadway cares and me...

sunday night was the 19th annual BROADWAY CARES/EQUITY FIGHTS AIDS fundraiser called "broadway bares."  it's a sexy, variety and burlesque show featuring the best of broadway dancers, and a few stars.

this year included appearances by allison janney (the west wing, away we go), sutton foster (shrek: the musical, flight of the conchords), and mo rocca (VH1 best week ever, NPR wait wait, dont tell me).  i volunteered backstage and was fortunate enough to see mo sans shirt.  not bad!

the fleshy event raised a whopping $808,819, which all goes to broadway cares/EFA!  a great success, but still down from last year's $874,372.  is it the economy?  people just don't have the extra cash to donate to such a great cause?

my feeling is, if you don't have the money to donate to your favorite cause (children, animals, cancer research), find a way to donate your time!

don't judge me...

am i the only one watching "i'm a celebrity... get me outta here?"

i think i am but that's okay.  there is nothing else on tv since "gossip girl" ended it's season.

i just wanted to say, years later, that i am officially jumping on the sanjaya band wagon.  i love him.  he is one of the few likeable "characters" on "i'm a celeb."  maybe it's because he hasn't been a supermodel for 20 plus years, or gone through drug rehab yet.

we'll see how this all pans out.  but i'm watching, and rooting for sanjaya.  don't judge me!

antiques and me

it's that time of year again!  time for the brimfield antique show in western mass.

brimfield happens for one week every may, july and september.  it began in the 1950s, and is one one of the country's largest and best-known outdoor antique fairs.  i started going with my parents when i was in elementary school and try to go every year!

over 6,000 dealers come from all around the country with all sorts of treasures.  you can find vintage clothes, records, fiestaware, old oak dressers, and oil lamps.  my favorite is the occasional "dollar box."  digging through a box of junk and whatever you find in there is... a dollar!

it's a great way to get some sun, do some walking, and pet the random dogs!

brimfield... here i come!

kickball, drink specials and me

new york city social sports club, or NYCSSC, offers casually competitive sports leagues for young professionals.  they have dodge ball, ultimate frisbee, softball, and inner tube water polo.

you are now reading the blog of a proud member of a NYCSSC kickball team!

The great thing about this organization is that it's run by people like us!  they "get it."  NYCSSC is currently offering a "pink slip special" which gives 25% off your registration fee if you've lost your job in the past six months.  check!  it offers post-game drink specials for those who like to socialize and drink.  check!

i'm looking forward to playing kickball with my friend, making some new friends, and having a great time playing outside!

tony tony tony and me

2009 TONY nominations are out!

leading the pack is "billy elliot: the musical" with 15 noms, including best musical, best score, best direction, best choreography, best costumes, basically, all the really good ones.  hope you have already seen it because now that it has been nominated, you wont be able to get tickets for two years.

there are some other really incredible nominees, notably, dolly parton.  miss parton got a nod for "9 to 5: the musical" for best original score (she wrote music and lyrics).  also, i cannot not mention "american idol" star constantine maroulis who is up for a TONY for best performance by a leading actor in the musical "rock of ages."  does anyone else find it incredible that consty and his silly face are up for a TONY?!

my favorite category:  best costume design.  i'm rooting for tim hatley's amazing production of "shrek: the musical."

see a full list of nominees at www.tonyawards.com.

MVP and me

more congratulations are in order...

this time to NBA's 2009 MVP, cleveland cavaliers star lebron james!  he received 109 of 121 first place votes and is the first cav to win the award.

there is a lot of info online about his point average, his assists, rebounds, etc.  i dont care much about that, but i have seen him play the knicks at MSG and he is a beast.  always a great player and fun to watch.  and he was on the cover of vogue's shape issue.

congrats lebron!

heavy metal drummer and me

i just scored my tickets to wilco's concert at keyspan park (home to the brooklyn cyclones) in july!  this will be my seventh time seeing them.  super-fan?  yes.  but jeff, glen, nels, john, mikael, and pat really know how to put on a show.

...but i'm still waiting for this "spring '09 release" of their new album.  it's may now, jeff tweedy.  may is not spring.

to my boston area friends, they are playing in lowell on july 11th.

marry me...

congratulations to maggie gyllenhaal and peter sarsgaard!  they tied the knot this weekend in italy.

i cant wait to see little ramona in a flower girl dress!

iphone, swine flu and me

don't worry mom!  the new "swine flu tracker" application for iphone is on it's way!

pending approval from apple, intuapps is creating a free app to keep worried citizens up to date on swine flu threat levels, as well as flu symptoms and facts.  it also will have a map (and a "locate me" button) to track where the virus has spread in relation to the iphone user.  awesome.

i'm still not wearing rubber gloves to the gym and a face mask on the subway.  oink.

dead weather and me

i'm really looking forward to the kills concert this weekend at webster hall.  my dear friend marisa has a girl crush on lead singer alison mosshart (i can't say i blame her).  should be great fun... it was last time!

but what i'm most looking forward to is miss mosshart's newest project with members of the raconteurs, including america's favorite sexy-ugly, jack white.

the dead weather, as they call themselves, rock.  and have already sold out shows in new york city.  (shaking my fist.)

what i can do, is hope against hope, that maybe jack white will roll in on saturday nights kills concert and give us a little treat!

sewing hope and me

SEWING HOPE is my new favorite charity.

it is a foundation that involves professionals in the fashion and costume industries to bring technical training and financial assistance to struggling women in africa.

the goal is to bring them the skills (sewing and tailoring) and equipment (sewing machines and fabric) they need for income-building opportunities for themselves and their families.

i think its a really great cause.  and to think that you don't have to be a doctor or a nurse to help these women.  teaching them a creative skill set which they can use and go on to make money to provide for their children is an equally valuable effort.

SEWING HOPE recently had a fashion show fundraiser in new york city.  this photo shows dresses from three different local designers.  i only recognize the center dress, as designed by tony nominated designer paul tazewell, because i helped work on it!

come ride with me...

this is my next big purchase!

... but with a basket up front.

ashanti and me

the princess of hip-hop and r&b is about to ease on down, ease on down the road...

ashanti will make her stage debut as "dorothy" in encores! production of "the wiz" at new york city center this summer.  (seen here as "dorothy" in "the muppets' wizard of oz" in 2005.)  the guy who directed "in the heights" is directing this, so you know it's gonna be good.

its runs june 12-july 5 and i will be there!
