antiques and me

it's that time of year again!  time for the brimfield antique show in western mass.

brimfield happens for one week every may, july and september.  it began in the 1950s, and is one one of the country's largest and best-known outdoor antique fairs.  i started going with my parents when i was in elementary school and try to go every year!

over 6,000 dealers come from all around the country with all sorts of treasures.  you can find vintage clothes, records, fiestaware, old oak dressers, and oil lamps.  my favorite is the occasional "dollar box."  digging through a box of junk and whatever you find in there is... a dollar!

it's a great way to get some sun, do some walking, and pet the random dogs!

brimfield... here i come!

kickball, drink specials and me

new york city social sports club, or NYCSSC, offers casually competitive sports leagues for young professionals.  they have dodge ball, ultimate frisbee, softball, and inner tube water polo.

you are now reading the blog of a proud member of a NYCSSC kickball team!

The great thing about this organization is that it's run by people like us!  they "get it."  NYCSSC is currently offering a "pink slip special" which gives 25% off your registration fee if you've lost your job in the past six months.  check!  it offers post-game drink specials for those who like to socialize and drink.  check!

i'm looking forward to playing kickball with my friend, making some new friends, and having a great time playing outside!

tony tony tony and me

2009 TONY nominations are out!

leading the pack is "billy elliot: the musical" with 15 noms, including best musical, best score, best direction, best choreography, best costumes, basically, all the really good ones.  hope you have already seen it because now that it has been nominated, you wont be able to get tickets for two years.

there are some other really incredible nominees, notably, dolly parton.  miss parton got a nod for "9 to 5: the musical" for best original score (she wrote music and lyrics).  also, i cannot not mention "american idol" star constantine maroulis who is up for a TONY for best performance by a leading actor in the musical "rock of ages."  does anyone else find it incredible that consty and his silly face are up for a TONY?!

my favorite category:  best costume design.  i'm rooting for tim hatley's amazing production of "shrek: the musical."

see a full list of nominees at www.tonyawards.com.

MVP and me

more congratulations are in order...

this time to NBA's 2009 MVP, cleveland cavaliers star lebron james!  he received 109 of 121 first place votes and is the first cav to win the award.

there is a lot of info online about his point average, his assists, rebounds, etc.  i dont care much about that, but i have seen him play the knicks at MSG and he is a beast.  always a great player and fun to watch.  and he was on the cover of vogue's shape issue.

congrats lebron!

heavy metal drummer and me

i just scored my tickets to wilco's concert at keyspan park (home to the brooklyn cyclones) in july!  this will be my seventh time seeing them.  super-fan?  yes.  but jeff, glen, nels, john, mikael, and pat really know how to put on a show.

...but i'm still waiting for this "spring '09 release" of their new album.  it's may now, jeff tweedy.  may is not spring.

to my boston area friends, they are playing in lowell on july 11th.

marry me...

congratulations to maggie gyllenhaal and peter sarsgaard!  they tied the knot this weekend in italy.

i cant wait to see little ramona in a flower girl dress!

iphone, swine flu and me

don't worry mom!  the new "swine flu tracker" application for iphone is on it's way!

pending approval from apple, intuapps is creating a free app to keep worried citizens up to date on swine flu threat levels, as well as flu symptoms and facts.  it also will have a map (and a "locate me" button) to track where the virus has spread in relation to the iphone user.  awesome.

i'm still not wearing rubber gloves to the gym and a face mask on the subway.  oink.
